I've got a 2013 ktm 250 exc-f, it has been playing up lately and has not been running right. It will start up and idle for a while (giving it throttle) but when it gets put into gear it shuts off. Any suggestions?

Re-valved My Shock - Easy Peazy

Spent a good bit of time lurking the suspension threads. Seemed fairly easy to rebuild/revalve a KYB shock. Did it over the last couple of days. It was easy.

GOLD VALVE: Very early I purchased a Gold Valve kit. If  I had waited until reading all the revalve threads I probably wouldn't have bothered. Since I had it, I used it. I don't regret it. Made it easy, gave me a bunch of valve stack ideas and a bunch of extra shims.

Pictured are my stacks. The shim packages are numbered based on shim thickness. K1006 = 0.10 mm, K2006 = 0.20 mm, etc. There are a huge number of shims in each package.

HELP steering stem races

I am swaping my forks with some showas!

I am in the middle of putting the triple clamps on and I got the races out and now I am putting the news in. I got the top one in with ease and was really surprised how easy it was.

(I got excited and I think I started to rushed things)

So I did the exact same thing with the bottom one. But I think because of the weird angle it went in slightly on an angle, after smashing it bit harder I took it out. Now there is a line where the bearing wasn't going in! :(:(:( I tried to put it in again but could not get it in.
I dont know what to do from here!?

Do you think the line in the tube is going to prevent it from going in ?

I didn't notice any damage to the race, should I try and buy a new one?

Thank you for your help in advanced.

Can anyone tell me how a built drz400e compares to a real mx bike?

As the title says, I feel like my DRZ400E is in a pretty good place right now.  Its to the point of almost being scary with raising the front wheel but thats mostly due to my low gearing I think.  How does a decked out drz compare to say a wr450? Id ask for a comparison to something like a 501, 570, or 701 but I have a feeling its not even comparable?

Does it get to the point where you can even accelerate without wheeling?

DRZ400E

FCR39MX

Yoshi full TRS

42 pilot

170 main

jd red clip 4

100 paj

45-75 degree temperature

15/44 gearing with excel 17in sumo wheels (id drop rear sprockets but then my chain wont fit my dirt wheels.)

Can anyone who has ridden a similar drz and a higher end bike chime in? Thanks!

2 Stroke Maintenance?

Hey ya'll,
I'm buying a yz 125 this spring and had a few questions.
1) What ratio for Oil:Gas works best for trail riding? I'm thinking a 32:1

2) Anyone have tips on how to keep their carburetor and motor spic and span in order to prevent bogging? I came across a video of a lad that mentioned he leaks the carburetor after every ride if there is still gas sitting in his tank. His explanation seemed logically sound: "When mixed gas used for 2 stroke engines sits for too long it somewhat ferments and cause serious bogging issues to the carburetor".

3) I'm 6'2 190 lbs, anyone else with a relative build to mine have any tips on their suspension set up?

DR350 vs Yamaha TTR

OK guys, I have a little bit of a dilemma. I am really new to motorcycles, and I recently bought a one owner Yamaha TTR225 that has been barn kept and barely ridden. It is an 03, but is in excellent shape.

I have found a 1991 DR 350 that someone want to swap with me. I really want a dual sport, and a bigger bike. I have heard that the TTR is a dog, and even as a new rider, I can say is not very fast. Am I a total idiot for wanting to swap and 03 for a 91?

XR650 skid guard and questions

DSCF4710.JPGDSCF4711.JPG Hey guys,  Old school MXer from the early 70's. Started on Pentons then rode Husqvarna big bikes.   Bought a 2004 XR650L Dec 2016 to trail ride a little.   I was little disappointed it would not pick front wheel up in first gear to clear water or ??.  Appears to be geared a little high.  Will probably drop front sprocket 1 tooth.  What brand for sprocket and probably a new chain???

Second issue is frame guard or skid plate.  Manual I have just shows a frame guard which I do NOT have.  I have a skid plate that was already taken off but given too me by previous owner  I think its aftermarket.  See picture

Last question is if anything can be done easily and cheaply to make engine breath better??

Thanks in advance for advice

I have a problem with my Beta 300 RR

Hello All

I have a Beta 15 300 2T that will not start. I posted up on the Beta forum

http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/1211617-wont-start/

I have rebuilt the carb twice and blown every crevice out, including the jets. I have heard maybe the rings are bad, so I pulled the head and the exhaust. From what I can see the rings look ok and are sealed. I have not pulled the barrel as of yet. Now I am hearing possibly timing? How and why would that change? The only thing that I had changed or touched was the needle, nothing else. Any ideas ??

Took the risk...but paid $2400 for a 2015 250. Have questions though...

Was a kid's bike that definitely didn't respect it.  Looked like an '04 more than a 2015.  Filter wasn't clean, etc..  He also wadded up the bars and the rear wheel.  It cranked right up dead cold and no weird sounds. He took the $2400.

I figured with the $ allowance I gave myself I could refresh this thing.

--First question on the list is wheels:  I can get a black rims/red hubs new 2013 wheel set f/b for $400.  Will they fit or do they need spacers, etc?

--OEM top end?

--Heard stay away from Wiseco Rods.  So OEM or other?

--any place to find compatibility with the years for parts?

Thanks in advance.

Rear shock installation help

I am reassembling my bike after having the carb out. I pulled the shock absorber when pulling the carb out. The carb is back in and I was able to get the air box boot connected. Now I am trying to get the shock back in. The bottom was easy, but the top is not cooperating. The service manual shows connecting the air boot after completely installing the shock. Does this really matter if the shock goes in first? I want to find out before I pull the boot loose and have to reinstall it a second time. I may just need another set of hands to help me.

ok, so i am 14, i am around 5'8' i weigh 145 pounds, my boot size is 11, im not a small dude.. i have ridden powerful atvs before, i understand the concept of having power, but being smart with it... i want to know your opinions on a good starter bike, i wanted a rmz 250, yes i understand the power, im worried about the height, what bike can i get with GOOD POWER, but i can flat foot... Im buying from craigslist, so i have a limited selection. i was going to get a ttr 125, but that would be to small, and would get boring fast. im using it for trail riding, with some sand. Please help me find a bike i can flat foot, that has good power, and that isnt expensive... so not a new bike, maybe 2004-2009

Strange gold specs inside my crankcase

I pulled of the reeds to look inside the bottom end of my 1993 WR250Z and find something strange. It looks as if there is some kind of gold dust inside my crankcase. I am stumped as to what this is or how it got there. When wiping it with my finger it doesn't come off.
