2012 crf250 fuel injection problem?

Alright so as you know i have a 2012 crf250 that may or may not have a fuel injection problem. it starts up fairly easy it is a little tough to start then when it does start it does not idle the "idle adjuster" wont do what its supposed to. but if you countinue to give it a little gas it will stay started but after a small period of time it starts to bog and eventually die. then it is extremly difficult to start. i recently put i new top end in it i dont know if that or  maybe something with the fuel injector could be the problem. compression is good there are no lights on the kill switch going off. and advice would be greatly appreciated thanks..

Rmx 250 help needed

Hey all, il start by introducing myself. I'm new round these parts but seen/heard it was a very reliable forum for information & help with a recent purchase.
I recently bought an RMX 250. Love my 2 strokes and seen this local to myself and had to go have a look. Not a bad bike. Old chap used it on his farm the past 16 years! He removed the lights etc back in 2000 and can't remember where he placed them! The bike is not too bad, engine sounds ruff but has been sat for 8 months. I do plan on doing a full restore and a complete engine rebuild.
This is how I bought it..

Right now time for you clever chaps to help me out..
What is this?? 20160326_230043_zps2cocywyg.jpg
One pipe goes to the powervalve. The other was connected to nothing and was blowing out alot of smoke when it was running?
From the pic of my bike what year is it?
Just so I know what engine parts to buy.
I'm going to replace the standard exhaust. Weighs a ton and heard it's very restricted for these bikes. I notice that the fmf and pro circuit pipes are for springs where as my standard exhaust bolted to the cylinder?
Do these bikes originally come with a ignition?
I'm sure they'll be more questions but il leave it as that for now. I'm going to convert this one to a supermoto. And really get it looking amazing!
Cheers in advance.

Questions on dual sport tires (I have read most of the threads here)

Hey folks, I've read hours worth of threads on dual sport tires here, I'm actually not just being lazy :) A common theme is that the perfect road / off-road tire does not exist.. -makes perfect sense. What I am struggling with is the fact that I will do mostly street riding (80/20 mix) due to my schedule, but when I do get off-road, the terrain is rocky and pretty aggressive trails so I need tires that will work and not cause a wipe-out and injury due to no traction. I've narrowed down the list to Dunlop 606's and Pirelli's (probably MT21's). I'm essentially just looking for a dual sport tire that will wear as slow as possible on the road but also keep me safe in the trails. I don't need to be the fastest guy in the trails or climb major hills, cross rivers, etc... but I don't want to go down in a trail because I was trying to get away with a trailwing or something silly like that because I appreciated it's street durability. I hear a lot of people like the D606 rears but not as many like the fronts. I also hear a lot of people use a combo, for example Pirelli MT21 front and Dunlop D606 rear. I've researched dunlops, Pirelli's, Kenda, Shinko, IRC, Bridgestone, Continental, etc..etc.. To stay safe off-road, the Pirelli MT21's and D606's seem to be fairly safe. Are one or the other better at wearing on pavement... keeping the knobbies in tact, wearing reasonably slowly if ridden tamely? How about a combo of those two or others? I almost want to look at trials tires but don't think they'll be safe in the woods so I'm leaning toward MT21 front and D606 rear for my 2005 DRZ400s with jet kit, K&N and FMF PC4 slip on.. Thoughts? Thanks!

Kenda Equillibrium?

Anyone try these yet?

They are a trials/knobby hybrid and are very soft/sticky. I ran one briefly last fall until the snow came. On tight, rocky mountain single track it works very well. The sidewall is stiff enough to handle the Forest Service roads extremely well, much better than a trials tire. They were very hard to get last fall and I wondered if many other folks had tried them yet. Anybody? Opinions?

XTrainer rear shock service, Question

Before I spring for a Fox or Ohlins rear shock for my XT I'm gonna try servicing it and using a mixture of 5w and 10w shock fluid to increase the shocks damping both compression and rebound.  I have had to set the clickers both rebound and compression at 3 to 5 clicks out from full firm to get much damping effect.  I am hoping that with heavier fluid I will be able to set the clickers more toward the center of their range and allowing more fluid to flow and still have more damping while at the same time causing the shock to work cooler.

My question here is:  How many psi of Nitrogen should I refill to?  In the past on other bikes I have used 140 - 145psi.  Not sure about this Olle shock though.

I know Moto9 has been into the XTrainer shock and if you see this post please chime in here and let me know what psi you used for nitrogen.  Anyone else here who does rear shock service and can recommend please do.

Thanks

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and decided to share my build with you all. Well, I got the bike for $400 on CL a couple months ago. I started stripping it down...

This thing was rough to say the least, but it ran and everything was there.

Plenty of seized bearings to be replaced. One of the shock linkage bearings was so bad I had to air chisel the shizz out of it.

ImageUploadedByThumper Talk1459208470.315592.jpg

Also new front and rear fender with decals to give it somewhat of a nice look...haha. Also, finally got the frame bare and stripped by media blast.

Engine before and after my tooth brush treatment. This took a while to get all that grease off. It's hard telling how long it's been on there.

Going to start putting this bike back together this weekend. BTW don't make fun of my jack, that computer is amazing. Lol

Bike dies on slight throttle after washing Air Box?

$

Hi all,

After a weekends racing with no hiccups I tried starting my bike after washing today and it just wont rev without dying!

The only thing I did different was wash my air box with the dirty filter in. I replaced my filter after soaking up a little water in the boot but it's not been right since.

Could I have gunked the pilot by washing?

I can get my bike to idle but it needs the choke on longer than the usual 15 seconds. When warm it idled off choke but instantly stops on throttle twist.

I take it can't be my plug as It idles.

I'll clean my plug and carb tomorrow to see if its something simple.

Dealer Service Question

Folks,

I'm taking my '96 XR4 in for service/general tune-up. In your experience, do Honda dealers typically have any problems installing parts (mostly OEM) purchased elsewhere? I know tires are typically refused, but how about misc. things like a Uni, jets, seal savers, etc.? In a similar vein, do dealers have any issues not conforming to factory reccomended best practices/settings?

I do have a good history with the shop albeit it's been a while. A few of my bikes as a kid were purchased there as well as most service work.

I'll typically avoid the shop and try do most of my own work (within capabilities) but haven't had a pro go through this one since purchasing a year ago. Appreciate your insight.

May hold off replacing till I get one of these puppies.

230 Fork swap Spring 2016 - options

$

I have been reading as much as I can find about fork swaps on the CRF230F.

It seems Reger Engineering is out of business?  Website is gone.

So that means his steering stem mod and brake re-locator are no longer an option (for CR 85 or 150r forks).

I can find the Emig stem and spacer for a whopping $180 then add the labor for a machine shop to do the work, but that is very painful.  And, still no brake caliper re-locator.

One thing I'm not understanding so well, isn't the front wheel size for the CR85/CRF150R 17" or 19"?  So once you put a 21" wheel with those forks, isn't it like several inches higher than the stock wheels of those bikes?

So I am having trouble figuring out how to go with the CR85/CRF150R forks.  Even if I sort out the stem mod, I don't want to run a small front wheel, and with the 230's 21" wheel with larger disk, I would need a re-locator for the caliper.

Wondering if it is better at this point to go for a CRF250R or X front end?  And get the fork travel shortened up a bit.

Another angle, the CRF230F fork is 37mm, there are some decent quality vintage forks out there with 38mm forks, would it be easy enough to have a machine shop bore the 37mm triple clamps out to 38mm to allow the ability to run a conventional 38mm fork?
