Clake on 2016 YZ450FX installed

so i got my CLAKE pro lever and installed it yesterday. i have not been out on an actual ride yet but will be headed out this coming friday.

i did ride it up and down the street a few times to see how the engagement works and i have to say i am very impressed with it.

initially i was looking for a better alternative to the reckluse RLHB on my WR it was marginal it required a lot of effort to lock the rear wheel and was difficult to reach as i wanted to keep my clutch lever.

ive since upgraded to the 2016 450FX and re used my reckluse clutch on this bike. all i needed was a new clutch cover and the reckluse fit perfectly on the new bike.

i elected not to reinstall the LHRB from reckluse as i felt it was underpowered

so instead i tried the OX brake, the owner of the company agreed to give me a full refund if not satisfied and fortunately he took it back without issue.

for me the OX was simpler but from a durability standpoint looked like something that would break easily. it looked like something better suited for a bicycle and as far as effort it took just as much to get the wheel to lock as the reckluse and i had to pin it all the way to the bars to get that result.

with the CLAKE all those problems are resolved! i do have a reckluse clutch installed but i can see how and why someone may want to go back to a stock clutch at some point.

the clutch disengagement is smooth and you can adjust the clutch preload to make it lighter than stock but i feel it is about the same effort wise as stock without any changes.

i now have the magura hydraulic clutch so no cable and the only thing i notice is that the clutch returns to engagement a little slower then before. i suspect it is due to the viscosity of the mineral oil passing through a small opening that causes this but it still functions fine as you rarely dump a clutch like that anyway.

i did swap out the CLAKE clutch cam for the one with a little more lift as i was not confident it was fully disengaging. now it seems better.

for me i have never been one to use the rear brake with my foot, i find that 4 strokes have so much engine braking i've never needed it but going down steep technical terrain when i wanted to move my weight back on the bike it is impossible to reach the rear foot brake in this position and sometimes the engine braking is not enough especially with a reckluse which tends to free wheel down a hill at slower speeds.

i also had an unexpected dismount recently when i accidentally whisky throttled the bike at a slow speed while i was already sort of falling off of it and it pretty much shot out from under me leaving me on the ground. if you have a reckluse you know how bad that can get when you get spoiled and keep your hand off the clutch! any blip of the gas of an otherwise stationary bike can cause bad things to happen!

with the CLAKE it forces you to use the rear brake more or at least keep a hand on the lever and i feel that whisky throttle is a lot less likely to happen.

i think ill end up riding with my left hand on the lever more now that it has 2 functions and ill learn to use both brakes more often.

overall i am impressed with the build quality and the ease of adjustment. the brake functions seems perfect without any changes i can easily lock the rear wheel and modulate it perfectly. there is a lot less effort needed to accomplish this verse the other 2 offering's mentioned previously.

you can have a lot of clutch / brake overlap, or none at all depending on the cams and wether or not you grab the lever on the inside or outside positions.

CLAKE made a boo boo with my order i need to get resolved this week, i ordered the pro lever initially on their website not realizing it was the pro, i wanted the clake 2 instead which was cheaper. i called Owen in Australia (fortunately i have VOIP and it was about .03 a minute)

he refunded me the difference and changed my order, but i still ended up with the pro lever. at this point i don't know if i need to bother with the clake 2. they told me it is as simple as swapping out the levers with the single removable pin but i don't know if ill even use the 2 levers separately or lock them together as 1 or bias them so you can get some brake with the clutch and vice versa.

the pro lever seems adequate and with the reckluse i feel like the clutch is less important anyway.

the only time i can see using the clutch function without the brake is if i want to just clutch during shifts without risk of using rear brake as the pro lever is a little tricky to get just clutch and no brake. you have to grab it at the inner position and roll your hand in the inwards direction to keep the brake out of the equation. eventually if you pull it all the way back it will activate the brake, just not as much.

bleeding the system was the most difficult part of the install process. but i found that a syringe and a clear plastic tube made short work of it. i did not follow their instructions. i elected to assemble everything and inject the fluid through the bleed nipple at the slave. this ensures no air introduced to the system and it's faster and cleaner than using their method.

when i talk to Owen again ill ask if anything can be adjusted as for the effort to pull the clutch as it says in the manual that if you have a reckluse auto clutch you cannot use the clutch assist feature. i need to find out why that is and what can be done to lighten the pull some as i would like to use it with 1 finger operation.

ill keep you guys posted as things progress but if in the mean time your looking for a better way to rind enduro i highly recommend the product. other than 6 weeks to order it and the price it is a great accessory and fits behind my hand guards with no problem.

2014 YZ 250 jetting question

Hi guys.  I am going to consult the jetting database, of course, but I figured I would see if anyone wanted to help steer me to the right answer if you know what my bike needs.  2014 YZ 250...bought new , left in stock, all stock.  Been out to ride it twice.  Indiana/Illinois is location.  Fouled a plug each time upon start up / warm up.  First time the choke was on for maybe 25 seconds, today the choke was on maybe 8 seconds before I turned it off and tried to clear the bike out.  Swapped a plug, which was wet, then it ran without fouling, but won't idle at all, forcing me to blip the throttle all the time and still it stalls easy, and seems to run a little ratty.  .  I have been in the sport for decades, and my last smoker was a RM 125 just 3 years ago that fouled one plug all season, also at startup, so I have been around a long time.  I am guessing that the air screw adjustments should take care of most of my problem.  I doubt that a jet change is needed, but I don't know yet.  Any comments here to point me in the right direction?    Edit....I run 32:1 Yamalube R.....elevation 500'     Thanks.

Help installing spark arrestor on Honda CRF250R

I own a 2007 Honda CRF250R which has a stock dual exhaust. In my state, New York, you need a spark arrestor. So I would need two spark arrestor caps for both exhaust pipes, right? This would be quite pricey for me. Is there other options?

Thanks,

2011 kx250f dual injector swap results

recently switched my 2011 kx250f over to dual injector, it made 35.05 hp, with 18.68ft lbs of tq. with some cams and a remap,on 93 octane, switched it over to 2012 setup and it made a tick over 36 with the stock ecu, switched ecu out for a unit with a remap and made 36.5 hp, pretty happy for a minimal amount of time and money invested to gain some power, I am going to put in a new set of rings to tighten up end gap, and bump the compression a little bit, and clean up the head a little, it actually lost a little bit of torque with the dual injector setup, would like to gain a little back, btw there was 3.5hrs on motor since complete rebuild, has a balanced crank and a stock piston coated

2015 YZ250fx electrical issues

Gang, my 250fx is killing the battery overnight while it sits.  I have replaced 2 relays and still not working.  I am kind of at my wits end.  Has anyone experienced this?  When I charge or put in a new battery it will work, but overnight will kill battery if I do not disconnect the battery cables.

Between the xr250 and xr400 which bike would be a better dual sport? What year of bike should I get, what problems for they have? Any info will help. I did have a xr200, I don know xr's are reliable just wondering which ones are the better ones. And I'm curious as to which bikes had problems, I know on some of the xr400s they would have a problem in the gear box. Any info on the bikes would help.

I need to upgrade my springs on my 05 crf230f. I love this bike but as an old MX'r (47) I still want to catch some air when I'm not trail riding with my family. However I'm 210 lbs and the stock setup just will not do. Please let me know what setup you would recommend and where is a good place to purchase them.

XR650l Shifting question

I'm doing a rebuild on a 94 xr650L, I tore it down to replace the countershaft and to fix a shifting issue. I have the cases back together without engine oil and everything installed properly including the external shift mechanism on the outside of the right crankcase. My question is about checking to make sure the bike is shifting correctly before I fully assemble the cases with gaskets etc... Right now it will shift through each gear, however, it becomes hung up and half shifts occasionally-- the gear shift drum stopper sits at the peak of the gearshift drum cam, this is corrected by manually spinning the mainshaft slightly. Is this normal? Or should the bike have no issue and fully shift into each gear without manipulation of the mainshaft.

Thanks!

2006 CRF450X Throttle position sensor (TPS) question

Took my TPS off the carb. Trying to test it per service manual.
Between blue and black wires I get 4.4k ohms, which is within spec. But between black and yellow, get less than 1k ohm. When turning the TPS slot all the way, goes to about 4K ohms max, when multimeter is on black / yellow wires.
According to calcs in the service manual, I should get about 6k ohms in idle position.

Am I testing it wrong? Possible it's a bad TPS? It's accurate to test it off the bike, correct?
Thanks.

Just picked up an 04 cr85r off a trade.. The guy took all the electrical off it so I'm buying all new electrical (stator, fly wheel, cdi, coil, kill switch) and hopefully it will fire up! Any cheap mods out there for this bike? Or suggestions for stuff to do to it?

So right now I have a yz85 bigwheel. The bike is awesome but just doesn't have the low end power I need for the woods. How is the 150 in tight technical trails. I have also heard stuff about needing to adjust the valves very often. That's not too big of a concern for me because I can do it myself. How often will it need rebuilt. I have owned 4 stroke play bikes before but not a 4 stroke race bike. I know Maintenon is more frequent and harder than a 2 stroke. My big question is really how good is it on tight technical trails

Need help on Showa SFF fork oil change!

$

I have a 2015 Honda CRF250R. This is my first time changing the fork oils. I decided to do the left first.

According to the manual there is 310cm (standard) of oil in the outer tube and 87 cm in the inner chamber.

I did the outer tube first. Drained oil. Measured oil drained to be 300cm so that was about right figuring some left in the drain pan. Re-assembled.
Put air in the inner chamber and the balance chamber.
Checked function of fork just by pumping by hand, all seemed well.

Proceeded to the inner chamber. Relieved air from inner chamber and balance chamber per instructions.
Removed stopper ring but had a heck of a time getting the fork cap out.
At one point I turned the fork upside down and pumped the shock - bad move - oil sprayed out - figured this was just oil from the inner chamber.
At least I did it over the drain pan and caught most of the spray.
Finally got the fork cap out and proceeded to drain oil per instructions but when I measured the oil that I got out it was around 350cm.
Only 87cm was supposed to be in the inner chamber!

So now I don't know what to do.
Any way that oil can pass from the outer tube to the inner chamber?
If not them could it be that the inner chamber had the wrong amount of oil in it when purchased (new)?
Could the owners manual have the wrong capacity listed at 87cm for the inner chamber?

Help Please!!!!
