Who was/is great at comming through the pack to lead?

$

Sure, top five guys get top five starts and finish top five.

But, who was known for being able to come through the pack regardless of their start?

I have not been watching MX and SX for decades, have olnly seen recent years.  Seems to me that Stewart could and would always get to front if bad start.

I remember an out door year when Bagget would never start in top five but always end up on the podium "El Cubaracha" style.

I see that Cooper Webb is not the best starter but seems to work way through traffic pretty good.

Just wondering who was known as the best at this.

On the other side of it:  Who is know as the best starter and not be able to keep it?  Just kidding, I have watched enough to know that is Allessi #800.  Amazing EVERYBODY says the starts are the most inportant part of the race.  For 99% of the guys, a good start means a good finish (MIllsap, Tomac, Barcia, ext)  But not for MA800.  Amazing how many good starts he gets and podiums he does not get.

I'd think every top rider would hire MA800 to teach them how the hell he does it.

95 cr125 issues, please help!

I just bought a 1995 cr125. The guy I bought it from put a new top end in and he broke it in and all that jazz. My problem is 1) it doesn't want to idle. It die anytime I come to a stop. I have tried to adjust the idle screw (which is part of the choke on the keihin carb i have). Also I can put the choke on and off and the bike doesn't sound/run any different either way. I am running premium fuel with a 40:1 ratio and a NKG br8eg spark plug. my second issue is that I have to give the bike about 3/4 throttle in order to get it going out of first gear and it sometimes rides great and other times it bogs down and dies. I've read that it could be a clutch, carb, power valve, or gearing problem. Where I live is about 2,000 feet higher than where I bought it, but I rode it right after a bought it and it had the same issue so i'm not convinced it is that carb yet. When I get going in first gear it feels like it is sputtering for about 2 seconds and then it hits the power band and rips great! if there is anyone out there that could help it would really save me money in not having to take it to the shop. Thanks everyone!

WR250F Sprockets

Just got myself some used 17" wheels :-) but there's no rear sprocket on there at the moment so I need to get one...

Anyone know what's the smallest rear (combined with 14T front) that can be run on a Steel Frame (2003) WRF, without issues of cutting through the slider or other undesirable effects?

I've seen a 38T available!

Rear tire is 160/60 17.

Suggested combinations from anyone who runs a 250F on the street would be most welcome.

Thanks.

Yamaha YZ ESR 325 (2-T) Review

Reference this past thread if you would like to read detailed information on riders experience.

http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/1020420-yz-325/

There is no Replacement for Displacement!!! Repeat those words over and over because once you feel a 325 Two-Stroke Torque (close to a 450) down low, you will kick yourself for waiting to buy the kit! In the FIM World Enduro Championship (WEC) the E3 Class (290+ 2-Stroke or 475+ 4-Stroke) with most of the best riders are on 300 2-Strokes. Most of the time, the 300 2-Strokes will be faster than the E1 250 4-Stroke class or E2 450 4-Stroke class. This kit allows you to have 1 Fun Bike with the Broadest (Linear) Power Band for Motocross/Off-Road riding!

Eddie Sanders Racing (ESR) http://www.eddie-sanders-racing.com/category_s/126.htm

Options: 325 (option-5 Oversize Pistons) (33% Displacement increase over 250) / 345 (option-2 Oversize Pistons) (38% Displacement increase over 250), Aluminum Cylinder (Can be Re-sleeved), Machined Head, Piston, Adjustable Power Valve and Gaskets a $900 to $1000 investment.

Options: Thinking of buying a 2016 YZ250X ($7,390), YZ250FX ($7,890), YZ450FX ($8,890) Model, if you have the money good for you. Or spend the money on a used Yamaha YZ 250 ($3K to $5K), add a skid plate, front disc cover maybe some other preferred items. After riding the YZ ESR 325 I would say, all the 250’s or 450’s are now second rate compared to the YZ ESR 325! I believe ESR is the best VALUE Big Bore with the BROADEST power band!
Yamaha YZ with ESR 325 Kit - (250 was 212 LBS. Dry - 228 Wet) (YZ 325 - 214 LBS. Dry est.)
Weight Benefit over YZ 250FX, (231 LBS Dry est. – 247 Wet or 16 LBS. heavier) YZ450FX (240 LBS. Dry est. – 262 LBS. Wet) – (30 LBS. heavier) (Note: Fuel weighs 8 LBS. / 1 gal.)

Recent Rides: YZ ESR 325
-MX Tracks, torque out of the turn, nice linear power band (easier to ride), stronger than a 250 could ever hope to be! (Yamaha YZ250X or YZ250/450 FX bikes with wider gearing will be at a disadvantage)
-Off-Road (OHV areas), try to stall my bike you may not be able to! Want to ride Trials like for Extreme Enduro, no problem! (YZ 250 (non X) will have less top end)
Setup: Yamaha YZ ESR 325 - 2007 Model
-ESR 325, S7 Woods Porting, Silver Head, Race Gas Dome, (Use Race/Pump Gas 50/50)
-168 Main Jet (ESR recommended Main) and 48 Pilot Jet, Needle in the top position, may go to a 45 Pilot and change the needle position to minimize any unburned oil. Riding Altitude 500’ to 4100’
-Maxima Formula K2 Two Stroke Oil – Flash Point 240 Degrees (One of the Lowest) (helps reduce unburned oil) (40 to 1)
-No Fly Wheel Weight needed, but on the 250 engine a 9 oz. worked well.
-Rekluse EXP Core 2.0 Auto Clutch Kit

Summary: I do not work for ESR, but this bike is awesome! No more 250 for me! Dyno run coming in the future.

rechargeable battery LED light bar for no battery bike

$

HELLO  I have wanted some lights on my bike as all my buddy as are getting them and now I have an excuse to buy some lights. We all have mx bikes, and they are all going the trailtech way and replacing the stator and such, they are using the ktm style number plate light setup. I want to do something different for the following reasons:

1. only want a light on the bike when needed (has to be easy to remove)

2. not very happy with the amount of light the lights I mentioned above provide

3. want to spend $300

So I have been doing a bunch of reading and I figure my best option is a LED light bar powered by some sort of rechargeable battery. I was thinking about using lipo battery's as I fly quadcopters when I'm not riding so I have alot of experience with them. Alot of people say lipo's are dangerous and they are if used wrong but if they are not overcharged I see no problem with them (I have witnessed them fall from 500+ feet and take direct impact on more than one occasion, battery was unusable but no explosions or anything like that.) I found a nice light bar that is probably over kill but figure if I'm gunna have light the more the better. The light is a 9 inch led light bar it has 6 3w spot led's in the middle with 6 3w flood led's on either side for a total of 18 led's 54w 3.4 amps. The light comes with a mount that can be moved around anywhere on the light, so I am going to order a second mount and use two and secure it near the top of my number plate. the light is 49.95 Canadian dollars so pretty well free to those Americans reading this :) free shipping. The battery I will probably get is a 8000mah 3cell lipo, two of them they are $43 from hobbyking. some other things I will get from hobbyking: 5.5mm bullet connectors for easy removal, a cheap battery charger(just to show what it would cost to buy the whole setup),a bunch of shrink tube to cover wires and a voltage meter/low voltage alarm. After I wrote that I decided it sounded like a good plan so I just ordered everything hope it gets here soon, I spent $294cnd. I will leave a list of everything I bought as well as a build log when all the parts arrive. P.s. I have no idea what I'm doing but will have working lights by the end.

Ron Hamp's Cam Gets The Holeshot At SD 2 Supercross

I just wanted to give a shutout to Ron and his cam/spring combo as it continues to impress. My son (#424) has been off the past 1.5 years recovering from an injury and just got back racing the 2016 West Coast Supercross rounds. This past weekend he got the holeshot in the 250 LCQ in San Diego using Ron's cam/spring combo. The bike is a '14 with Ron's cam/spring combo, over-size buckets, high compression piston, Vortex ignition running VP MR-Pro6... that's it! If your looking for a new cam to increase performance you can't go wrong with Ron's setup!

UFO Restyle rear fender on 2015/16?

Has anyone tried to use a UFO Restyle rear fender with the newer 2T plastic (2015+)?  I'm wondering if the area where the seat and number plates mesh with the rear fender is an issue?  For some reason I like the Restyle fender better than the new style fender.

Thanks!

Ok so I've been doing some recerch and I'm wondering if anyone knows or if they have tried it. I have a 2006 rmz 450, recluse only makes the EXP 3.0 for it, was wondering what the difference is in the 2006 engine vs. The 2008 which recluse makes the CoreEXP 3.0. Can I get the one for the 08 and it fit or am I doomed to only being able to get the EXP 3.0. Any help or insight will be welcome. Thanks.

1979/80 KLX 250 problem

$

I have a 1979 KLX 250.  It is tricked out a bit.  I do not have the specs but it has a big exhaust, lots of compression and a big carb.  It is actually fast!  I raced it with PNW VMX and it will stay right with my old Maico 250 to the first turn.

Last year I was racing at Woodland.  I had no mojo that day and dropped it in a tight right-hander.  It stalled and would not start.

I finally got it to pop off but it would kick back and backfire.  It will not idle  before it would purr like a kitten.  Here is what i have done.

  1. I cleaned the carb (it is new)
  2. I checked the spark (fat and blue)
  3. I adjusted the valves
  4. I pulled the flywheel and checked the woodruff key
  5. I checked the valve timing
  6. the chain is about half a link off on timing.

strangely the ignition timing is NOT ADJUSTABLE at the pick up.  WTH???

it still acts like the timing is way off.

Do you all think it could be a faulty CDI?
